Children's Rights in Biomedicine Conference on September 12
7 September 2022
On September 12, the Department of Law will host its conference “Children's Rights in Biomedicine” to scrutinize scientific risk and uncertainty in biomedical interventions.
European researchers, experts, and policymakers will come together at the conference to discuss whether national and international legal frameworks effectively protect children from scientific risks and uncertainty in the biomedical sphere.
- Our focus is on the status of children as rights bearers in healthcare, especially when they are subject to biomedical examinations and interventions. Respect for the full array of their rights is essential to secure robust protections for their health and to ensure that the highest attainable standards of care are met, says Jameson Garland, Associate Professor in Medical Law at the Department of Law.
- At the conference, we will share the interim results from our project, “Decision-making for Children in a State of Medical Indeterminacy”, which is generously funded by the Swedish Research Council. The aim of the conference is to interact with policymakers, stakeholders, and other researchers, and to exchange our knowledge and experiences in this sphere. This is a crucial milestone in the search for the most effective ways to protect children's rights and interests in biomedicine, says Santa Slokenberga, Senior Lecturer in Administrative Law at the Department of Law.
